La Miskitia

A remote and prolific Tarpon & Snook fishery

La Mistkita is a remote part of Honduras and Nicaragua inhabited by indigenous tribes. Lagoons, rivers, and lakes run through the coastal communities, connecting them all by water.

These waters are filled with tarpon, snook, jacks, grouper, and many other species. Although some of the indigenous tribes survive on netting, the fishery is so vast there are many areas untouched and full of wildlife, including monkeys, manatees, toucans, and parrots.

The Fishing

We encountered all of this in just one day of exploring. Hooking over 20 tarpon up to 150 pounds and Snook reaching 40 pounds. We learned about a giant snook migration that goes from September through December.

We have a unique invitation into La Moskitia because some of our Fly Fish Guanaja employees are from the area and have families who are leaders in the community.

We’ve been invited to bring the first tourists back to the area in 10 years. There were several tarpon/snook operations running in the area over 10 years ago. Many locals have been waiting for our arrival, including local, experienced fishing guides who already put us on prolific tarpon and snook fishing. The time is now.
