What Brings You to Guanaja—and What Brings You Back

Every year, Guanaja gives us more reasons to appreciate just how special this place is.

Some people come chasing permit. Some come because a friend told them they had to. Some arrive with a hosted group, their family or a few fishing buddies they have been planning a trip with for years.

And then, a lot of them find their way back.

That might be the part we love most.

Not because we are trying to become bigger or bring more people through the lodge. Because when someone returns, it usually means Guanaja became more than a fishing destination to them.

They come back for the water. The guides. The staff. The communities. The kids. And that feeling of being somewhere truly different from the rest of the world.

Because no matter how many years pass, Guanaja still feels like Guanaja.

There Is No One “Guanaja Season”

One of the biggest misconceptions about fishing Guanaja is that there is a single season to come.

There really isn’t.

We fish year-round, and every part of the year has its own personality.

Conditions change. Fish move differently. Weather shifts. Different opportunities show up. And sometimes the best trip is not about trying to pick the “perfect” week at all.

It is about figuring out what kind of experience you want.

Maybe you want to focus hard on permit.

Maybe you want to chase bonefish and tarpon.

The longer we do this, the more obvious that becomes.

People remember mornings at the lodge. Boat rides across the island. Conversations with guides. Long dinners. The staff. The communities. The kids. The inside jokes that somehow develop within about three days.

For us, the future of Fly Fish Guanaja isn’t about getting bigger. It’s about doing this well.

We want every person who comes here to feel looked after. To know the guides and the people behind the lodge. To leave with a real connection to Guanaja—not just a collection of fish photos.

And we want the good from those trips to stay here too.

That means supporting local jobs, working alongside the community and finding more ways for every trip to give something back to the place that makes all of this possible.

Guanaja has given us a lot.

Taking care of the island—and the people who call it home—will always matter most.

The fishing may be what brings people here.

But the experience, the relationships and the island itself are what stay with them.

That is the kind of trip we want to keep creating.
