Its true what they say…..time flies when you’re having fun. It feels like we landed on the sun cracked airstrip yesterday and now we’re getting ready to say our good byes to all the new friends we’ve made here. One word to describe the week would be “full”. We did everything from someone catching their first fish ever on a fly rod to spending an afternoon having lunch in an impoverished fishing village with a population of about 25.
The week was full of learning. We learned everything from knot tying, to writing, to good morals through examples of the locals. Fishing is fun and all because you get to battle some of the toughest game fish in the world, but learning from the locals is my favourite and most mind enriching part of the week. A simple phrase to sum up their lifestyle is “that you don’t need money and other material things to live a happy and fruitful life”
I’ve never met people as hospitable and happy as the 25 that live in North East Bite. They have the ability to truly cherish the little things and friends in life, which is the way that everyone should be. The frame of mind back home is that you need a lot of things for happiness. I’ve seen and learned this way of life here and Im going to strive to start living my life that way; to make myself and others around me happier.
