GUIDES
Our guides have dedicated their lives fly-fishing and have been immersed in the fishery since they were kids.
Guides throughout the Caribbean vary so much and it’s often a toss up whether your guide is skilled and friendly. Guanaja guides were trained under the philosophy that rule number 1 is HAVE FUN. Our guests return as much for the guide's friendship as the fish in the flats, everyone has grown together.

Rankin JacksonRankin’s passion for fishing began at an early age when he started fishing for grunts and snapper with his grandfather. He spent a little time in the military and was a rafting guide on the mainland before he settled back to his roots. He was born with the natural ability to double haul further than most clients and his keen vision of the fishery keeps him in tune with his surroundings. Rankin has quickly risen to become one of the most requested guides in the Caribbean.

Deron JacksonDeron is the rock of Fly Fish Guanaja. Deron’s calm stealthy approach to bonefish and permit is deadly. Deron consistently shows our guests epic days flyfishing in Guanaja, even in the most challenging conditions. Deron always returns to the lodge with great stories of great fish caught. He is a born and bred man of the sea, our best mechanic, and best problem solver. Deron can do anything, and lately it’s been landing the biggest permit of the season pushing 40 pounds. He has never had a bad day in the water and if you get him joking, look out, he is hilarious.

Edwin MedinaEdwin has grown from a teenager with great eyes to one of the best saltwater fly fishing guides in the world. Not only does Edwin see fish from zip codes away, he has made a career out of successfully guiding our anglers into trophy bonefish and permit. Edwin has grown taller than the rest of the villagers and can pole our boats through anything in pursuit of fish. He comes from North East Bight, a village of 30 people on the North side of Guanaja. As one of the head guides at Fly Fish Guanaja, Edwin is a local hero. Fishing with Edwin is a culturally-rich fish experience of a lifetime. Most guests want to take Edwin home with them because of his brilliant personality full of positive kindness. Edwin is loved by all but the fish of Guanaja, as he is their worst nightmare.

Pablo JacksonPablo is the original Fly Fish Guanaja guide and has been backing us up from the beginning. He has several grand slams under his belt and knows the flats fishing in Guanaja like the back of his hands. Pablo is also a dedicated deep sea fisherman and can lead you into catching dinner like wahoo, grouper, tuna . . . and he’s landed sailfish and hooked marlin from our flats boats, only minutes outside the reef.

Patrick EbanksPatrick started with humble beginnings as Fly Fish Guanaja's supply runner. He quickly fell into lodge fly-tier with an unparalleled ability to tie perfect custom patterns that have been catching most of the fish for Fly Fish Guanaja the last several years. Not only is Patrick head fly-tier for Guide Flies and Fly Fish Guanaja, he's developed into one of the best guides as well. Patrick has several seasons guiding in Guanaja and a few out at Faraway Cayes. His calm demeanor and endless positive attitude makes him a huge pleasure to fish with. The only problem with Patrick is that we don't have 4 of him.

ArchieArchie came with the Faraway Cayes, and they wouldn't exist without him. Archie and his family developed Dayton Caye at the Faraway Cayes long before we arrived. Dayton Caye was a lobster camp and outpost for the Guanaja marine culture and Archie grew up out there, hunting, gathering, and building. Archie himself protected the large schools of bonefish and permit from netting and over fishing, knowing that one day Fly Fish Guanaja would make it out there and bring tourists. Archie made history when he put on a saltwater fly-fishing outfit, he instantly formed into one of the best permit fishing guides in history. The hardships of his previous career lobstering and fishing made fly-fishing guiding look like a cake walk, even for permit. Archie's enthusiasm and dedication to landing permit with anglers is priceless, also his sense of humor will keep you on your toes and laughing most of the day. Archie now has 3 full seasons guiding his home waters, the Faraway Cayes. Fishing with him, out there, is one of the days that will stand out when it's all said and done.

Kendell PoweryKendall is one of our head guides at Fly Fish Guanaja and earned this position through years of hard work and paying dues. Like Patrick, Kendall started running supplies and tying flies. Although Kendall is an asset on the fly-tying vice, he was set on guiding from day one. His passion for being on the water with guests has him guiding almost everyday when season is in operation, and his fish numbers show. When it comes to catching several bonefish in a day while having a blast doing it, Kendall is hard to beat.
